Servolution, Part 4: Just Jump In

"A spiritual gift is a special supernatural ability that God gives to
each of His children, so that together they can advance His purposes in
this world."

(Romans 12:1) âTherefore, I urge you, brothers, in
view of Godâs mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy
and pleasing to Godâthis is your spiritual act of worship.â
What do I need in order to use my spiritual gifts?

You need to be a Christian.
(James 1:17) âEvery good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.â

You need to believe in spiritual gifts.
(1 Corinthians 12:27) âNow you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.â

You need to be willing to go through the process.
(1 Corinthians 14:12) âSince you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.â

You need to pray.
(James 1:5) âIf any of you lacks wisdom, he
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and
it will be given to him.â

(Romans 12:6-8) âWe have
different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a manâs gift is
prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is
serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is
encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of
others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern
diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.â

To develop your gifts:

1. Explore the possibilities.
(1 Corinthians 14:1) âFollow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts.â

2. Experiment with as many as you can.
(Psalm 34:8) âTaste and see that the Lord is good.â

3. Examine your feelings.
(Psalm 37:4) âDelight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.â

(Philippians 2:13) ââfor it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.â

4. Evaluate your effectiveness.
(Proverbs 18:16 NKJV) âA manâs gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.â

5. Expect confirmation.

(1
Corinthians 1:5-7) âFor in him you have been enriched in every way--in
all your speaking and in all your knowledge--because our testimony
about Christ was confirmed in you. Therefore you do not lack any
spiritual giftââ

(Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT) âThe Jews who lived near the enemy came and
told us again and again, âThey will come from all directions and attack
us!â So I placed armed guards behind the lowest parts of the wall in
the exposed areas. I stationed the people to stand guard by families,
armed with swords, spears, and bows.

(Hebrews 4:14 NLT) âThen as I looked over the situation, I called
together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, âDonât
be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious,
and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and
your homes!â

(Hebrews 4:20 NLT) âWhen you hear the blast of the trumpet, rush to wherever it is sounding. Then our God will fight for us!â

Servolution, Part 2: What? Me a Priest?

What? Me a Priest?

(Romans 12:3-6) âDo not think of yourself
more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober
judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do
not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different
giftsââ

âA church is in danger when it becomes infatuated with preserving
human power for itself rather than releasing God-potential in its
peopleâ.

1. Every Christian a minister.
(1 Peter
2:9) âBut you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who
called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.â

2. Every task is important.
(1 Corinthians 2:14-17)
âYes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the
foot says, âI am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,â that
does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, âI
am not part of the body because I am not an eye,â would that make it
any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would
you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell
anything?â

(1 Corinthians 2:18-21) âBut our bodies have many parts, and God
has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be
if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.
The eye can never say to the hand, âI donât need you.â The head canât
say to the feet, âI donât need you.â

(1 Corinthians 2:22-26) âIn fact, some parts of the body that seem
weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the
parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest
care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,
while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God
has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to
those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the
members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part
suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all
the parts are glad.â

(1 Corinthians 2:27) âAll of you together are Christâs body, and each of you is a part of it.â

(1
Peter 4:10 NLT) âGod has given gifts to each of you from his great
variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that Godâs generosity
can flow through you.â

3. Every person is unique.
(1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Message) âGodâs various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all
originate in Godâs Spirit. Godâs various ministries are carried out
everywhere; but they all originate in Godâs Spirit. Godâs various
expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is
behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God
is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are
handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is
wonderfulââ

4. Everyone is a â10â in some area.
(Psalm 139:13-16)
âFor you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's
womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your
works are wonderful, I know that full wellâAll the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be.â

Spiritual Gifts:

(1 Corinthians 12:1) âNow about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.â

(2 Timothy 1:6) âFor this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in youââ

Definition of a spiritual gift:
"A spiritual gift is a
special supernatural ability that God gives to each of His children, so
that together they can advance His purposes in this world."

3 Benefits of using my gifts

1. My gifts show Godâs plan for my life.
(Ephesians
2:10 NLT) âFor we are Godâs masterpiece. He has created us anew in
Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long
ago.â

2. My gifts are the key to happiness.
(John 15:8, 11)
âThis is to my Fatherâs glory, that you bear much fruit, showing
yourselves to be my disciples. I have told you this so that my joy may
be in you and that your joy may be complete.â

3. My gifts can make a difference.
(1 Corinthians
15:58) âAlways give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because
you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.â

7 Days of Servolution

Servolution, Part 1: The Great Gamble

The Great Gamble

(Ecclesiastes 2:3) I tried cheering myself with wine, and
embracing follyâmy mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see
what was worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of
their lives.

(Ecclesiastes 2:4-6) I undertook great projects: I built houses for
myself and planted vineyards. I made gardens and parks and planted all
kinds of fruit trees in them. I made reservoirs to water groves of
flourishing trees.

(Ecclesiastes 2:7-8) I bought male and female slaves and had other
slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks
than anyone in Jerusalem before me. I amassed silver and gold for
myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and
women singers, and a harem as wellâthe delights of the heart of man.

(Ecclesiastes 2:9) I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me.

(Ecclesiastes 2:10) âI denied myself nothing my eyes desiredâ

(Ecclesiastes
2:11) Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had
toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the
wind; nothing was gained under the sun.â

Pleasure
(Ecclesiastes 2:10-11) âI denied myself
nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took
delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.

Pursuits
(Ecclesiastes 2:17) âSo I hated life, because the work that is done
under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing
after the wind.â

People
(Ecclesiastes 4:8) âThere was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brotherâThis too is meaningless.â

Possessions
(Ecclesiastes 5:10) âWhoever loves money
never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with
his income. This too is meaningless.â

(John 13:1) âIt was
just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for
him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who
were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.â

(John 13:4-5) ââso he got up from the meal, took off his outer
clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured
water into a basin and began to wash his disciplesâ feet, drying them
with the towel that was wrapped around him.â

(John 13:12-17) âWhen he had finished washing their feet, he put on
his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have
done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and
rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher,
have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have
set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell
you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a
messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these
things, you will be blessed if you do them.â

(John 13:17) â..Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.â

Serving others:

1. Serving others actually puts me first.

(Matthew 20:16) âSo the last will be first, and the first will be last.â

2. Serving others doesnât make sense.

(John 13:7) Jesus replied, âYou do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.â

(Matthew
20:25-28) Jesus called them together and said, âYou know that the
rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials
exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants
to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be
first must be your slaveâjust as the Son of Man did not come to be
served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.â

3. Serving others is your ultimate calling.

(John 13:14) âNow that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.â

(Mark
8:35 NLT) âIf you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose
it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the
Good News, you will find true life.â

4. Serving others brings absolute fulfillment.

(John 13:17) âNow that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.â

(Hebrews
6:10 NLT) âHe will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how
you have shown your love to Him by caring for other Christians.â

(Matthew 25:21) âWell done, good and faithful servant! You have
been faithful with a few things so; I will put you in charge of many
things. Come and share your master's happiness!â

Do you really believe that?

Rumors, Part 1: Jesus Isn't Real

The title of message: Rumor #1: Jesus isnât real

(Mark 8:27-29)
Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea
Philippi. On the way he asked them, âWho do people say I am?â They
replied, âSome say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still
others, one of the prophets.â âBut what about you?â he asked. âWho do
you say I am?â Peter answered, âYou are the Christ.â

(Proverbs 4:23 GN) âBe careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.â

(Prov 19:9) â..the person who spreads rumors is ruined.â

Rumors come from:

1. Tradition

(Matthew
15:7-9) âYou hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about
you: âThese people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far
from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught
by men.â â

(Matthew 7:22-23) (NIV) âMany will say to me on that day, 'Lord,
Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out
demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I
never knew you.â

(2 Timothy 4:3-4 LB) âThere is going to come a time when people
wonât listen to the truth but will go around looking for teachers who
will tell them just what they want to hear. They wonât listen to what
the Bible says but will blithely follow their own misguided ideas.â

2. Intellect

(1 Corinthians 2:4-5) âMy message and my
preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a
demonstration of the Spiritâs power, so that your faith might not rest
on menâs wisdom, but on Godâs power.â

3. A personal encounter

(John
9:17, 25) Finally they turned again to the blind man, âWhat have you
to say about him?â He replied, âWhether he is a sinner or not, I donât
know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!â

(2 Timothy 1:12) ââI know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is ableââ

(2 Corinthians 5:17) âTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!â

(Job 42:5-6)(Msg) âI admit I once lived by rumors of you; now I have it
all firsthandâfrom my own eyes and ears! I'm sorryâforgive me. I'll
never do that again, I promise! I'll never again live on crusts of
hearsay, crumbs of rumor."

For more information on the vision of Freedom Church, please visit our website at www.freedom-church.org.
